Day 3 - Christmas is DISCOVERY
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn King of the Jews? We saw His star as it rose, and we have come to worship Him.” - Matthew 2:1-2 (NLT)

Have you ever been on a treasure hunt? It might not have been an actual treasure hunt with a map and buried treasure, but have you ever really chased something like a degree, or a job, or a dream? There is something thrilling about the wonder-filled suspense of following the path that leads to discovery. However, the things we chase are unmatched when compared to the year-long quest that took place throughout the present-day Middle East nearly 2000 years ago. It was then that the wise men saw a star in the East when Jesus was born and committed to the journey of a lifetime that resulted in discovering the Savior of the world! They followed this star for hundreds of miles until they finally reached the destination and were in the presence of little King Jesus. This idea of discovery is an essential part of the original Christmas story, and I believe it should be for us as well. Discovery is all about taking what you know to be true and following it, trusting it, and living by it in order to encounter something new. Just like the wise men faithfully followed the star and discovered Jesus, we can faithfully live out our call to be the church and discover new areas to grow and develop.
What new thing do you long to discover this Christmas season, and what will it require you to start doing today to get there? The wise men eventually discovered Jesus by taking one step at a time… or maybe it was their camels. Camel or not, take your first step today.
